An idea that I thought I would pass along. Someone suggested giving a blank journal to your child to allow them to ask questions ot speak their mind on something and then give it to you to answer and return. it.
My daughter is getting one for her birthday. Maybe it's an idea you could find useful too.

The journal is a great idea! My dc don’t use a journal but my 14 yr dd writes notes to us all the time! Just today she gave me a note apologizing for something she did-even doled out a stiff punishment for herself! LOL

It’s just freaky sometimes. I have a stack of these blank books bought JUST for that purpose sitting here on my desk that I intended to start when we got here (into the new house).
